Finding Mamaroneck Residents
There is no public master list for every Mamaroneck household. The most useful approach starts with the fact already known. An address points to a parcel, a parcel points to an assessment owner and legal description, and a deed index can follow a title transfer. A specific name can be checked through the New York voter form when the researcher has the matching county, date of birth, and address. For an earlier household, a printed directory, newspaper, census schedule, or deed can provide a dated lead.
Save the original spelling, address, record year, and the relationship shown. A property owner may not occupy the property. A mailing line may belong to a trustee or representative. A directory entry establishes an appearance in that edition, not present residency. These controls make a Mamaroneck residents directory search more accurate and avoid turning a narrow public record into a personal profile.
- Confirm the legal Town, Village, or unincorporated jurisdiction for the address.
- Use the parcel identifier and assessment record to separate situs from mailing information.
- Follow a recorded deed through the County Clerk when title history matters.
- Cross-check a name with a second independent source before combining records.
- Use the custodian, library, or FOIL route when a public portal does not hold the needed record.
Mamaroneck Resident Records Offices
Local records are kept by different custodians. The Town Clerk routes local vital-record requests and FOIL, the Assessor maintains the property inventory and annual assessment roll, and the County Clerk holds recorded land instruments. The Board of Elections supplies an individual registration lookup, while the library and Historical Society offer historical research routes. Use the office that created the record instead of expecting one search form to cover all of them.

WRO land and legal index is an access layer, not the official record.
Note: The Town’s public department directory is the best current source for individual department contacts and should be checked before a visit.
Mamaroneck Jurisdiction Before Search
The Town of Mamaroneck includes the Village of Larchmont, an unincorporated area, and the part of the Village of Mamaroneck west of the Mamaroneck River. The villages and unincorporated area are separately self-governing. A Mamaroneck or Larchmont postal line therefore does not choose the right assessor, clerk, permit office, or parcel layer. Check the municipal field first, particularly for an address close to the river or a Village border.
The County parcel service has a Town layer and a Village of Mamaroneck comparison layer. It is a discovery tool, and the County warns that parcel lines are approximate. A municipal tax map and a recorded legal description control a boundary dispute.
Mamaroneck Property Record Search
The Town’s BAS tax search is a current property trail. It accepts a collection, tax-map number, property address, or owner name and asks users to enter one criterion only. A tax-map number uses a dashed section-block-lot format, such as 9-999-99. Whole or partial owner-name searching is supported, and additional name text narrows broad results. The annual assessment-roll archive is an important fallback when an interactive system is unavailable, with tentative and final roll links visible from 2013 through the 2026 tentative roll.
| BAS field | Use | Result limit |
|---|---|---|
| Property Address | Locate a situs address | Does not prove current occupancy |
| Owner Name | Find property-linked owners | May be a partial or mailing relationship |
| Tax Map Number | Carry a known parcel across systems | Use dashes, no spaces |
| Collection | Choose the tax collection context | Exact options were not captured |

Read owner, owner-mailing address, property address, roll year, and parcel number as separate fields before using a result as a lead.
Mamaroneck Parcel and Deed Trail
Westchester GIS adds the parcel identifiers needed to move from a street address to a legal record. The Town layer exposes SBL, print key, property address, owner name, owner mailing address, property ZIP, owner ZIP, class, school name, and municipal codes. Copy the identifier exactly into a BAS, assessor, FOIL, or County Clerk request. The property and owner fields deliberately show two different address relationships.
For a deed chain, search the current owner as grantee in WRO, retain the instrument number, date, legal description, and prior reference, then search the seller as a grantee. WRO advertises records back to the eighteenth century, but the exact Town-specific online cutoff was not confirmed. Images and reports can require an account or payment, while the County Clerk supplies the official copy. The detailed Mamaroneck street directory follows that address chain across a whole road.
Current Mamaroneck Resident Sources
Current sources identify different relationships to a place or a public record. Use the source whose scope matches the question, then document its access limits. A property system can help locate an owner of record. The state voter tool confirms a matching registration, not a full street roster. A deed index connects parties to a transfer. A Town staff directory names public offices, not private households.
| Source | What it can show | Custodian | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tax and assessment roll | Owner, property, value, class, exemptions | Town Assessor | PROS, BAS, or roll archive |
| Parcel GIS | SBL, geometry, situs and mailing fields | Westchester GIS | Free map and REST metadata |
| Recorded land index | Grantor, grantee, instrument and legal description | County Clerk | WRO or official copy route |
| Voter confirmation | A matching registration record | NYS Board of Elections | Individual lookup, protected limits |
- Parcel
- A mapped tax unit, not a household list.
- Situs address
- The property location, distinct from a mailing line.
- Index
- A finding aid that may point to an image or an office file.
- Criss-cross directory
- An address-first printed directory used for historical research.
Mamaroneck Voter Registration Check
The NYS voter lookup uses last name, first name, date of birth, county, and address. It is a confirmation tool, not an unrestricted resident file or block browse. A nonmatch can reflect spelling, date-of-birth entry, the selected county, an older address, list maintenance, or a protected record. It does not prove that a person never lived locally.
Election Law makes registration records inspectable while withholding identifying numbers and protected entries. A full voter-data request follows the Board of Elections FOIL route and requires an elections-purpose statement. Protected voters and Address Confidentiality Program participants must not be identified through other sources.

The form's fields support one-person confirmation and should not be repurposed as a street-wide search.
Mamaroneck Court and Vital Routes
Online court access is uneven. The Town Justice Court has no public party-name index located in the research. Ask its clerk for a docket or file with the party name, approximate date, case type, and index number. WebCivil Local has party, index, attorney, judge, court, year, status, and output controls for participating local civil courts. Sealed cases do not appear, and a result is an index or status entry rather than the full file. OCA criminal-history and federal PACER searches have separate scope, fee, and access rules.
For vital records, the Town Clerk handles births and deaths occurring in the Town and marriages begun with a Town license. Local certified copies are listed at $10, subject to eligibility and identification. New York genealogy rules generally use 75 years for births when the person is known deceased and 50 years for deaths or marriages when both spouses are known deceased. State Archives indexes are research aids, not open certificate images.
Mamaroneck Historical Directory Collections
The historical shelf is fragmented but useful. New York Genealogical and Biographical Society guidance identifies complete Town records and Village records for Mamaroneck and Larchmont through 1993 on New York State Library microfilm. Catalog leads include Mamaroneck area directories from 1885-86 through 1910-11 and Mamaroneck city-directory leads for 1927-28 and 1930-31. Confirm a title, publisher, and shelf before treating a catalog lead as a complete run.
The Mamaroneck Public Library and the Mamaroneck Historical Society are local starting points. The Historical Society lists street-name research, historic maps, cemeteries, oral histories, and local books. Library of Congress material includes a Mamaroneck Daily Times catalog run from 1925 to 1998, a regional telephone-directory scan, and a six-sheet November 1896 Sanborn map. The Mamaroneck city directory page explains how to request and read these collections.
Mamaroneck Records Privacy Controls
New York FOIL presumes access to agency records but allows privacy, safety, statutory-confidentiality, and law-enforcement exemptions. The Town says it acknowledges receipt within five business days and ordinarily responds or gives an estimated schedule within 21 business days. Standard copies up to 9 by 14 inches are generally 25 cents per page under Public Officers Law section 87, and the Town lists $30 for a USB containing an entire property file. An agency need not create a new resident compilation.
The Address Confidentiality Program provides a substitute mailing address for qualifying participants. Election Law also protects certain voter records, and federal law restricts DMV personal information. Ask for the narrow existing file needed and never try to triangulate an address that a confidentiality program shields.
Mamaroneck Digitization and Scams
Town records are still moving between counter files and digital access. The 2026 tentative budget reports 26,405 new Laserfiche files, including 2024 Building grant files, plus a $74,997 Building and Engineering records grant. A missing OpenGov result can justify a narrow request for an existing permit, inspection, certificate, or engineering file by address, type, and date range. It does not mean that the record never existed.
Use official domains and published phone numbers when a request involves payment or an unexpected document. Town Engineering warns of spoofed payment and document messages. County deed-copy and unclaimed-funds solicitations should be checked through the County Clerk or state agency directly. Note: An official record must be confirmed with its custodian before it is relied upon.
Mamaroneck Building File Access
Building and Code Enforcement is an address-keyed source for construction, additions, alterations, plumbing, signs, inspections, and certificates of occupancy or letters of completion. The Town moved applications through OpenGov and Viewpoint Cloud, where a first-time user creates an account. The public application path is not a complete historic permit index. For a file not visible online, ask for the existing permit, certificate, inspection, or land-use record by address, permit type, and date range.
Town research reports 849 permits, 843 certificates of occupancy or letters of completion, 146 complaints, and 2,904 inspections handled in 2023, with building and land-use files being scanned to Laserfiche. An application can identify an owner, contractor, architect, engineer, or filing representative. It establishes that work was proposed, reviewed, or inspected, not that every named person lived at the property. Engineering files can add drainage, curb, sidewalk, excavation, or site-work context through a parallel Town route.
Mamaroneck License and Entity Checks
State searches can confirm a public affiliation without becoming a resident list. The New York Department of State Licensee Search accepts last name, first name, license type, county, city, and ZIP. The Department of State business database can show an entity's name, organization date, jurisdiction, county, service-of-process address, agent, and status. UCC inquiry is a separate financing-statement and lien route. These records can help distinguish a business name from an individual name.
A registered agent or service address is not beneficial ownership and may not be a home. A professional or occupational license likewise confirms a regulated credential within that program's scope, not present residence. Keep the role shown by the original record. For an older name or former address, the state unclaimed-funds search accepts a last or business name with optional first name, city, ZIP, and property ID, but it does not show the amount of a claim.
Mamaroneck Cemetery and Newspaper Leads
When a household trail ends, local repositories can supply a dated next step. The Town maintains eight historic cemeteries, including Quaker/Barker, Gedney, Old Town, DeLancey, Richbell, Disbrow, Florence/Powell, and Palmer. The Town page gives locations and maintenance responsibility, but no official online interment-name index was located. A photographed stone or cemetery custodian should control the final identification.
The Mamaroneck Daily Times catalog covers 1925 through 1998. Search an obituary, probate notice, wedding notice, civic item, or street reference by date range and then confirm it with a vital, deed, probate, or cemetery record when possible. The Historical Society's local books, maps, cemetery work, and oral-history leads can also explain a street or family reference that does not appear in a digital index.
